No Quarry on Hwy. 58

Our Safe and Peaceful Community Is Proposed to Become a                           Loud, Dirty and Dangerous Industrial Thoroughfare

QUARRY IMPACT (per draft EIR)

Truck Traffic

An average of 273 truck trips daily (but up to 800 for emergancy projects) for up to 58 years. This means large, tandem trailer trucks will be passing through any point along the travel route every 45 seconds to 2 minutes.

Compromised Safety

For all travellers along the route.  People walking, cycling or driving will be impacted. Emergency vehicles will have difficulty passing trucks and vehicles backed up behind them. There are not enought turnoffs for vehicles to yield for emergencies.  Do you want to live with these risks?

Additional Noise

Noise from trucks, blasting and quarry operations will be significant and last for up to 58 years. Is this what you want to hear?

Decreased Air Quality

Emissions pollutants spewed daily by trucks and quarry operations are significant and will last for up to 58 years. Do you want to breath this in?

Valuable Water Required

Significant water will be used to wash the quarry's product as well as sprayed to manage unavoidable heavy dust production. Is there water to spare in this already very dry area?

PROPOSED HAUL ROUTE

The route goes through the town, over railway tracks, and intersects with the Santa Margarita Elementary School and Community Park.  The route then continues out to a rural area frequented by cyclists, tourists and locals; this portion of Highway 58 has limited visibility and has neither paved nor gravel shoulders.
